13-year old new lifter: Start him out doing 2-3 sets of 10 reps (with a weight he might be able to do 12 reps) on whatever lifts other users suggest. Baseball players need leg strength for pitching and forearm strength.
I would start him with calisthenics. Pull-ups – 10 rep, 3 sets. Push-ups 20 reps, 3 sets. I would perform with 4 second tempo (1 Mississippi etc ). Inverted body weight pull (perform with legs elevated if possible). Dumbbell shoulders- side lateral, front raise, rear felt pull.
Walking lunges with isometric hold on bottom position. Hold medicine ball statically over head when control improves, while lunging .
Perform 3 times a week.
Explosive workouts “CrossFit”
We got a personal trainer for my son for baseball. The guy actually worked with AZ DBacks, so he was in the know. He also had him taking a supplement drink…can't remember what all was in it, but it seemed to help. He started this at about 14. But, I will say, between the personal trainer, pitching coach, and a batting cage in the back yard, we burned him out. Just a heads up.
